The work addresses forms of representing culture. It makes a reference to an essay by the philosopher Ernst Cassirer (1874–1945) that deals with the permanently renewing digestive process of art and culture’s mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion. The showcase standing on three legs is supplemented by a high, dark-red, ceramic chimney with a light-blue cloud of smoke. A ruff made of gauze, the symbol of the separation between body and mind, is displayed in the showcase at exactly the height of the neck.
